Fire Place Screen-TriFold
A glass blower will take a ball of glass and blow it until it is very thing. They let it cool, drop to the ground, and shatter. Those shattered pieces are picked up and placed onto the table by another artist. For the Iris Glass, the artist lays the purple/blue/mauve pieces out to look like bouquets of iris's with long strands of green for stems and smaller green pieces for grassy type greenery. For the rose garden, the same process is used but the artist lays out an array of reds and pinks to look like a rose garden, with the greenery surrounding the roses. Once the shards are layed out as planned, hot glass is rolled over the top. This is an important part of the process because it gives the glass a very sparkly look. If the colored shards were fused (melted) into the clear, the effect would not be nearly as beautiful. On the other hand, the back side of this glass can be sharp and like any glass product, should be watched around children. Each fireplace screen will have a similar look, with a similar glass, but each will be unique in the way it is cut and how dense the color combinations may be. If you would like to know exactly which one you are getting, please ask us to email a photo of it to you ahead of time. This screen is now on display at my location with Great Ideas Depot Building.
